To get to First, take the cable car from Grindelwald - there are lovely views during the ride over the valley and mountains. There are lots of trails from the First cable car station. One of my favourites is the walk from First to Bachalpsee - there are beautiful views of the Bernese mountains during the whole walk.

The walk from takes around 1 hour each way, or less if you walk quickly. The path is wide and gently undulating, and also suitable for pushchairs. (Link to map showing Grindelwald and First).
